Incorrectly Installed Air Conditioner

Someone has bought an air conditioner and has two hands. The idea arises: "Surely I can install it myself." Yes, part of the work can be done independently, but first it is worth making sure that an air-conditioning installer will not later have to carry out additional work for which you will also have to pay. This includes removing the incorrectly installed unit, reinstalling it correctly, vacuuming the system, charging it and checking for leaks.

An interesting case occurred last week. A distressed customer called and said that some installers had fitted an air conditioner for him. It cooled well, but it leaked. The customer thought the air conditioner had been installed upside down. Naturally, without seeing the situation, it seemed that the condensate drain might be blocked or incorrectly installed. We agreed that our technicians would visit, inspect the system and resolve the problem for a fee, since we had not performed the original installation.

Our technicians arrived the same day and saw the following:

The air conditioner had indeed been installed upside down, with its underside facing upwards. It might still operate in this position, but the condensate produced during cooling cannot flow upwards into the condensate tray and instead runs from the unit onto the floor.

The unit was reinstalled correctly, and the condensate now flows not onto the floor but outside, as intended.

Here are two more photographs of unusually mounted units.

It is better to install an air conditioner correctly from the outset. Read more here
