The Sun Up Close

By compiling footage recorded by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory between 2011 and 2015,
this breathtaking time-lapse video was created.

Of course, the Sun is our source of energy, the centre of the Solar System and the reason for our existence, but as this footage reveals, the Sun is also alive.

The solar activity in this video is captured at such close range that it feels as though you are observing it in person.
Visible solar activity also directly affects us on Earth in the form of the aurora borealis, geomagnetic storms and eclipses.

In reality, we rarely appreciate just how dynamic and constantly changing our star — the Sun — truly is.
